Medellín nominated for World Travel Awards

Medellín – a legendary city, which during the last 30 years has become synonymous with crime and drugs due to negative press, as being the city with the highest crime and murder rates in the world. For several years now though, Medellín has become a centre of world travel thanks to its innovative infrastructure, comfortable year round temperatures and diverse cultural offers.

Many problems have been solved, crime has declined and today Medellín is just as safe as any other global city of its size. This year, Colombia’s second largest city has again been nominated in four categories for the World Travel Awards, which are also called the ‘Oscars of Tourism’ and are the most prestigious awards of the industry: South America's Leading Business Travel Destination 2017, South America's Leading City Break Destination 2017, South America's Leading City Tourist Board 2017 and South America's Leading Meetings & Conference Destination 2017. After winning the Award for South America’s Leading City Break Destination in 2016 and also winning awards in the previous two years, there are high expectations for Medellín to win even more than one award this year, especially because the city’s development is still the priority of Medellín’s government. It is good to see that Medellin is getting a lot of international attention. We noticed in the last few years that Medellin is attracting more and more national and international tourists.
